March 16th, Isla Santa Cruz

Publisearre: 27.03.2023

Xavier, our taxi driver, picks us up at the hotel in the morning and we first drive to a viewpoint overlooking the island. Oh, still closed, what now? Xavier knows Adriano Cabrera, who grows sugarcane, coffee, and cocoa with his family. You can try all of this on his farm. Yes, and Adriano is also there and gladly explains to us how sugarcane juice was made with an old press in the past. Since his donkey Pepe is not available right now, Ralf has to do it. 😃🤣
We try pure sugarcane juice, with lime/mandarin juice, and also the agua diente made from it. Then he shows us how the red coffee berry turns into the black bean, and here too Ralf has to help. The coffee made from the beans tastes delicious, so we can't help but buy something, especially when someone makes such an effort. Adriano also tells us how he came from the mainland to the Galapagos and built all of this here. Today his son works with him and supports him. After Adriano, the entrance to the viewpoint was finally open. What a view. Amazing!!!!
But now it was time to swim in a beautiful bay. In the water, we kept seeing iguanas swimming from shore to shore. Red and dark crabs on the rocks. It's so nice to splash around in the water.

In the evening, we visited the Darwin Station, where turtles from the different islands are bred to ensure their survival on the islands.
