Day 36: Departure
Dear readers. It's already over and we've reached the day of departure. It went by quicker than expected but we still have a long journey ahead of us. On the day of departure, it all started with us getting a good night's sleep and then getting up. Since we had already mostly packed our bags, we just had to do the rest quickly. When we finished packing we went downstairs and checked out. Afterwards we sat in the lobby for a while and waited for hunger to come. When he got in touch, we went out to eat one last time.
The whole thing was easier said than done, but we soon found a nice Chinese restaurant where we also had food. We always found this to be very tasty and filled us up a lot. Jule then went to the nearby McDonalds and ordered a coffee. Afterwards we had a final ice cream before we walked around for a while. We soon arrived at a river, next to which we walked. After a while we discovered a playground where we rested since it was getting warmer again. Sitting on the bench we thought about what we should do with our remaining time and money. We quickly agreed that we could spend our change at the nearest arcade. So off we went. We were in the arcade for another two hours and were able to say goodbye to all our favorite games and try them out one last time.
Afterwards we drove to a department store where we were able to spend some time. Soon we went back to the hotel and got dinner. This was eaten and then we had some time to spend in the hotel. When our time of waiting was over, we took the train to the airport. The first thing we did was check in our luggage there so that we could maneuver better in the airport. We strolled around the area for a bit and eventually ended up on the outside deck with a view of the runway. Everything was very relaxed until we realized that we still had to go to the security check. So we rushed there quickly, but we could have taken our time since we still had to wait a while for the plane. This was also 1 1/2 hours late. After another wait, we were soon able to get on the plane and soon we set off.
The flight went by very quickly, despite lasting 7 hours. At the beginning we kept ourselves entertained with the board entertainment but as time went on we got pretty tired and tried to sleep. Emphasis on trying, as this is not always so easy on a plane. In any case, we arrived in Singapore much faster than expected. There we first freshened up as we both smelled and looked a bit worn out. When we were fresh again we explored the airport, as there was a lot we could do here. The first order of business, however, was to eat at Burger King. What a feast. Well fortified, we then continued exploring. In short, in our almost 5 hours of transfer time, we took the train from one terminal to the other a couple of times and looked around. Our highlights were probably the botanical gardens, the butterfly park and the largest indoor waterfall in the world. At some point we walked to our gate and waited for the security check to start quite quickly. When the time finally came we were able to get on the plane pretty quickly. It turned out that we had all three seats in our row to ourselves. This definitely increased the comfort of the trip.
The first time we kept ourselves entertained with board entertainment. Then I finally managed to finish watching “The Last of Us”. At some point I tried to sleep again, which definitely worked better this time. Overall, the whole flight was a combination of these two things. All in all it was very relaxed and we were provided with quite good food and drinks. After about 13 hours we arrived in Frankfurt, picked up our luggage and then left the airport. Because we were both very thirsty, we got something to drink from McDonald's. We sat in front of the McDonald's for a while before we went to the main train station. Once we got there, we got something to eat and after another while of waiting, our train arrived. Another 2 1/2 hours of traveling by train and we finally arrived in Erfurt.
Finally, we would like to thank you all once again for your interest and moral support on our journey. All the best to you all and have a good time.
