Actually, we were supposed to spend 1 day in the Mekong Delta but after the last train ride (8 hours), we were so tired that we didn't want to endure it anymore after 17 hours of train ride. We would have spent another 4 hours on a public bus.
This time, the train ride wasn't as bad, as we had rented a whole sleeper car, which was actually meant for 4 people, for ourselves. But we couldn't really sleep either. In the end, it was also 20 hours on the train until we reached our destination.
Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam.
However, it doesn't have much to do with Vietnam anymore. A lot of wealth or absolute poverty.
Just like in any big city.
So we visited every shopping center but unfortunately most of it was too expensive 😅 the traffic there is a horror 🙈 I briefly regretted the two days in Bangkok, which are still ahead of us, but then I was told that it's only half as bad there 😂
We found a delicious pizzeria there, we went there every evening (much to Basti's delight) 😊
I tried Japanese sweets there, they were very expensive but also delicious 😊
We went to the tallest building (265m) to have coffee in the evening, to the Notre Dame Cathedral, to the old post office, to the Reunification Palace, and also visited an old temple and slept in an open suite at the top, overlooking the city.
In total, we covered about 2311 km by train, bus, and taxi, and it took us 45 hours.
We also walked 5km with our backpacks in Ho Chi Minh City 😅
Overall, we had 9 accommodations in 8 different places (2 hotels in Ho Chi Minh City, as we skipped the Mekong Delta)
But we both agree that we had the best time in the small villages and with family accommodations.
With the family in Ninh Binh, we had the most beautiful accommodation and the family was so kind and warm, we even had a foot bath every evening.
Phong Nha was beautiful with the animals or Hoi An in the beach bungalow and in the evening the city full of lanterns.
Now we are on our first island in Thailand and enjoying the peace 😊
