Day 356 - Arrive in Chiang Mai

Hello everyone!

Today we went back down from the island and up to the north ☺️

In the morning we woke up at 8 a.m., but unfortunately we were unlucky again with the weather. So we sat down on the terrace for a while, I got another cappuccino and then we packed in peace.

Kevin managed to reserve a rental car in Chiang Mai, not an easy task! Apparently all the cars there were already rented during our travel period, because no matter when we looked in the last few days, there were never any available.

It was a huge weight off our hearts because it is cold in the north and the distances are long - very inconvenient to take a scooter or taxi.

At midday we checked out and sat on the beach in a bar. We sat there for a while until we took the taxi boat to the part of the island so we could change to the speedboat.

We then took the speedboat to Phuket within an hour and then an extremely cheap taxi took us to the airport in another hour.

There we even had time for two cigarettes and were then able to board without any problems.

While we were already sitting on the plane, we discovered an email from the vehicle rental company: ... which is why we unfortunately cannot confirm the reservation. Great... We never thought that all rental vehicles could be fully booked... The rest of the flight seemed like a long time because we really wanted to take action and look for a solution.

Finally landed (even 10 minutes earlier than planned) everything went smoothly and we were able to take care of the car.

In fact, none of the airport rentals had anything available and the ones in town were already closed. So we decided to forego the beautiful and remote accommodation we had booked and organize an alternative at the airport. We booked a really ugly, but cheap and close hotel and ordered a grave there. We tried our luck and asked the driver if he had a colleague with a car rental company. In fact he knew someone, called directly aaaand: yessssssss!!!!! Starting tomorrow we have a car!

Satisfied, we got out and went straight to the room.

It's a real shame about the other accommodation, but above all we're happy that things can continue as planned starting tomorrow ☺️
