The Daintree Rainforest is one of the three oldest rainforests in the world and is located about 90 minutes north of Cairns. On the first day, we took a crocodile tour on the Daintree River, as we had seen crocodile signs everywhere since Townsville, but never the crocodiles themselves. In Queensland, it is not allowed for tour operators to feed the crocodiles, which we and our tour guide appreciated. We were even lucky enough to see three crocodiles, including Scarface the Boss, the ruler of the area we were in. He is about 60 years old and over 4.5 meters long. He got his name because of the many scars he has from fighting other males.
On the next day, we crossed the river on a ferry and went into the Daintree Rainforest ourselves. The morning rain shower (it's currently the rainy season) fit in perfectly. When we arrived at the first trail, the rain had already stopped and the sun created a tropical humid climate. We were able to explore the rainforest on several walking trails, lookouts, and at a swimming hole, and enjoy the day. We were even lucky enough to spot a rare cassowary again. This time we were able to see more than just its butt like at the Murray Falls.
