We stayed in Mumbai for two days. On Tuesday morning, we docked and immediately found a taxi to go to our friends who live in Mumbai. We had last seen them in October and were very excited to see them again. Mumbai seemed to be a bit more organized and cleaner than the previous Indian cities we had visited, at first glance. However, there was still a lot of traffic. When we arrived at our friends' place, it felt like a little oasis in the middle of the city. Through a large gate, we entered a beautiful calm and green courtyard. They were expecting us and knew exactly who we wanted to see. We had breakfast together, the kids played a bit, and after their nap, we explored the neighborhood right by the Gate of India. In addition to beautiful colonial buildings and a luxury hotel, we also walked through a small market. It was bustling with activity and there were many fruits, etc.
We went to a nice little café and then their driver took us to the terminal.
The next day, the same driver picked us up. He skillfully navigated through the traffic, while I closed my eyes several times and thought that I could never drive a car here. Everyone drives a bit as they please, with the occasional cow among all the cars on the road. And we were in the middle of it all. We had lunch at a Thali restaurant. It was delicious, and as soon as a bowl was empty, it was immediately refilled. After that, we walked along the promenade. Thankfully, it was only 29 degrees Celsius. Several people wanted to take a photo with Jakob.
We also explored a hip neighborhood, which was pretty cool. I even saw some Dabbawallahs. Those are the men who deliver the filled lunchboxes to working men. You might know them from the movie The Lunchbox. And that was pretty much it for Mumbai. Two days go by so quickly...
