Cold....it's cold! After we cooked and heated in the compact castle last night, it is still cold this morning. Before getting up, we turn on the heater. But the view outside is particularly delightful! Blue sky and the sun is shining!! It is chilly, but the sun warms! So breakfast is enjoyed outside....wonderful!! The weather promises to hold, so we will resume the route to the south. As the destination for the day, we choose Kaka Point Campground. Let's go!
The first stop is not far away. Boulder Beach. We enjoy the sun, the view, and later a coffee. Puppe follows the theory that the stone balls were made specifically for tourists...
We eat very healthy during the drive....fruit... But unfortunately, that awakens our cravings. We need something salty! Well....quickly bought something and off we go. Now we enjoy cheese and crackers during the drive. Maybe it's time to refuel...you still could...soon you have to! The gas station comes just in time, the compact castle shouldn't starve either. As it goes here, we quickly start a conversation with the cashier. Where do we want to go today? Nugget Point and Catlins, we answer with a smile. The sympathetic look definitely doesn't mean anything good! She brings out her tablet and shows us that the main roads south are closed due to flooding.....duration uncertain (who knows what damage the water has caused...). She smiles, we look stupid. So we have to replan. South is canceled, we don't want to go inland, so it's back north (aren't we just coming from there?!?). The new goal for today is Dunedin. The Elton John concert was yesterday, so everything should be back to normal today. Oh no...tomorrow is a holiday and Friday is a bridging day....however, we still manage to find a spot near the beach.
Next to us, Inge and Werner are camping. We suspect they are from Saarland....at least they sound like Heinz and Hilde! Pure amusement!
We pack our bags and head to the beach. The surf is powerful! But wait! No swimming allowed....a sewage pool has overflowed....probably the water would have been too cold for us anyway....phhhhh...instead, we sip a glass of Chardonnay.
Tomorrow we will continue towards Christchurch, we hope the weather holds. Tonight, it's definitely cold again...we eat inside. We are still very happy with the compact castle!
The Internet is extremely bad here, so the pictures will follow tomorrow!!
