Sant Antoni, a lap in the bay

Publisearre: 22.05.2024

On the last day before our onward journey to Mallorca, we wanted to compare the data shown in the forecast with reality.

So we left our harbor and headed for Illa Sa Conillera. First we sailed along the south beach past the bays. We watched the hustle and bustle from a distance. There is a small bay at Illa Sa Conillera, there was only one sailor at anchor, we sailed close to the beach but anchoring was not planned, so we continued our journey without stopping.

We drove a whole stretch at low revs and it had to happen at some point, our port engine was not happy with it. A shrill whistle announced that the engine was overheating, so we had to act quickly and cautiously. First of all, reduce the revs and check the temperature. The cooling water had not boiled yet, so we quickly realized that the impeller was not pumping the necessary cooling water. After this problem had been fixed, we were able to continue our journey and ventured a short ride out onto the open sea.

We would not have estimated the waves to be this high, which were forecast to be 50-60 cm. We also had very little wind, so the surface was relatively smooth. At least we were reassured that waves of 50-60 cm are apparently not that threatening, Gustav was able to handle them really well.

Back at the port, we still had to go to the gas station, then stow the bikes and discuss the course for the next day - we wanted to cross over to Mallorca.

Very important: replacing the impeller; it had gotten quite hot and we didn't want to have to deal with that on the crossing.

The forecast showed one or two good days, and we wanted to take advantage of them. Our first destination on Mallorca was Andratx, and from there probably Palma, that was the plan.
