In the morning it is cool again and cloudy. We consider whether to stay another day or move on. We decide to continue. We drive through endless expanses, everything looks very dry and the soil is really red here. The reservoirs are empty and people here would certainly appreciate rain, which will surely come soon, as we are here...! Suddenly, small towns appear in the middle of nowhere and then you have the feeling of being somewhere in nowhere again. Actually, we wanted to go to Sangüesa, but we can't find a place to sleep here and we continue to Pamplona, the capital of the Navarra region. In July, they chase the poor bulls through the streets here, crazy!
We go shopping with hunger...everyone knows that's counterproductive...where to put all the food, the fridge is bursting at the seams...! We check in at a spot just outside the city and find 30 euros for the off-season to be quite expensive...whether we'll stay for another night...we'll see! We enjoy the afternoon sun, it's so warm that we quickly have to put on our shorts and flip-flops, wonderful! However, two hours later we quickly put on something warm again...because when the sun goes away, you can already feel that it's almost November! In the evening, we empty our fridge a little bit and go to bed early. Jörni listens to a radio play...although he usually doesn't get further than the intro and I use the time to finally write everything down again!
By the way: El Autobus is red...or...el perro is cute...our Spanish is practically perfect now!
Good night friends!
The next morning it is sunny and we have breakfast in front of the bus...the fridge is getting a little bit emptier again. We want to see Pamplona, since we are already here. We pack everything up and drive into the city around noon. Fortunately, there are plenty of parking spaces here and the way to the old town is not far. There is already a lot of activity here, no bulls, but plenty of Spaniards. It is lunchtime and the Spaniards like to eat at this time. We stroll through the streets and can hardly imagine what it's like here in July when they chase the poor animals through here. Pictures on the facades of houses document this spectacle...not nice...but...different countries, different customs...although one could do without it.
Otherwise, you can buy shoes here without end and lots of kitsch...rarely seen so much kitsch...!
We sit in front of a bar, have a coffee, Jörni eats two tapas and we watch the lively hustle and bustle in Pamplona's old town. In the early afternoon, we continue our journey, we want to go back to the coast. We choose Mundaka, a small fishing village.
