Stage: from Meersburg to Konstanz
Distance traveled: 68 kilometers
We started the second day of our Lake Constance tour very leisurely with a really delicious and extensive breakfast buffet at our accommodation.
When we started cycling, it was sunny again and we rode quite close to the lake. However, the shoreline is very developed up to Überlingen, so we cycled through many residential areas.
We wanted to take a closer look at Überlingen, but we were driven away, so we could only catch fleeting glances of the beautiful old town. In addition, the state garden show was taking place there, so everything was blooming and beautifully arranged.
Now the path led us along the lake for a long time, with orchards lining the other side. It was really idyllic. In Ludwigshafen, there was a bicycle spindle to get to the bridge, from where we had a great view of the lake.
After this place, we left the shore of Lake Überlingen and cycled across the countryside. We had to overcome a few inclines, but even though this section was significantly less touristy, the conditions for cyclists were still great. A continuously paved cycle path next to a road. At one point, the cycle path was being renewed, so a lane was reserved for cyclists on the two-lane road and the cars were let through in blocks. Amazing!
Passing more and more flower meadows and uncut vineyards, we eventually arrived at the Marienschlucht. Unfortunately, it was closed, but we could catch a glimpse down from there. We also saw a castle ruin. We had our lunch break there and enjoyed our packed lunch.
Afterwards, we cycled through more towns. At the 'entrance' to Mainau Island, we had ice cream, but then continued our journey because 23€ per person was too much for us to visit the flower island.
And just like that, we arrived in Konstanz, a really bicycle-friendly city. We reached the old town via a Rhine bridge with a great view. After checking in and taking the obligatory coronavirus test, we explored the beautiful old town and the harbor and went out for a cozy dinner.
