Friesland (NL) | Leeuwarden - art on every corner! 🧑🏻‍🎨

Publisearre: 13.10.2023

Leeuwarden has around 127,000 inhabitants and was European Capital of Culture in 2018 together with Valletta. Even today you still encounter art and culture at every turn. This ranges from old buildings to spontaneous drum concerts on a boat in the city canal to painted 3D street art.

Worth seeing are, among other things:

the Blokhuispoort, a former penitentiary and prison, now a place for art and commerce,

the Kanselarij, former seat of the Court of Friesland from the 16th century,

the Stadhouderlijk Hof, seat of the governor of Friesland, today a hotel,

the Libra, the old trading center,

the Princessehof, built in 1693, 1731 by Marie Luise of Hesse-Kassel, widow of Johann Friso von Nassau-Dietz, governor of Friesland, today the Museum of Porcelain and Ceramics - contains the collection of Princess Marie Luise and

the Oldehove, leaning, unfinished bell tower from the 16th century and landmark of Leeuwarden.
