Australia - Penguin Island

Publisearre: 10.02.2018

Feb 5-6: We leave Perth on the day of arrival and head south to Fremantle. Amazing coastal areas and red earth typical of Down Under bring the typical Australian feeling. Fa eventually asks where the kangaroos are. We still have to disappoint him. But we head to Penguin Island, home to the smallest penguins in the world. A mini ferry takes us to the island, which costs quite a bit of money. The alternative is to walk through the mudflats at low tide or swim there. If we weren't here with three kids, that would be a serious alternative. When we arrive on the island, we take a tour and unfortunately don't see ANY penguins. This is not surprising since the little birds hunt in the sea during the day. But we are welcomed by several curious penguins at the medical station. In the end, we discover a penguin under a rock that seems to be nesting. Penguin Island is also home to hundreds of pelicans soaring overhead. After the excursion, I treat myself to a delicious coffee in the café and help Fabi with his homework. The boys head back to the camper. Suddenly, there is a commotion in the café because a snake has been spotted. Unfortunately, we don't see it anymore as it quickly disappears into the brush. So far, we haven't encountered any dangerous or poisonous animals in Down Under.
