We were now in Port Macquarie. Since we had already visited all the sights with the farm woman, we had almost nothing planned for the next few days.
Highlights with the farm woman:
The Koala Hospital, which is mainly run by volunteers, takes care of sick koalas and then releases them back into the wild (if possible). Koalas are only found in the east of Australia. They are endangered and have to sleep for 20 hours a day to conserve energy due to their low-energy diet. It was very exciting.
The view from the lighthouse was also very beautiful. Compared to the lighthouses we had already visited, it was quite small. However, it was lovingly decorated. We could also see the original structure of the lighthouse house, which was surprisingly small back then.
There is also a coastal walk in Port Macquarie. It leads from the city center along the beaches to the lighthouse. We had already done this. It goes along lovingly decorated stones in the city center. During the coastal walk, we even saw a dolphin up close.
Our days after the farm:
The days after the farm... First, we had to recover from the shock. We went for walks and observed people. Among others, we saw a boy in the skate park who performed many tricks on his scooter. He did several backflips with his scooter. We asked him how old he was and he said he was 14 years old. Amazing. What was equally amazing was that he did his flips without any protective gear... We thought it was incredibly dangerous on the hard concrete.
We also completed our to-do list. To save weight in our suitcases, we had to finish reading books, sort them out, and organize photos to free up storage space.
The weather also got worse here. We often wore sweaters and long pants. But now it's slowly getting warmer.
We are now looking forward to Newcastle and continuing our journey. But the hostel where we stayed was very good. It was clean, tidy, and had nice people.
