Yayyy! A travel blog! I'll give it a try since quite a few people in Germany are excited and it will make it easier for them to send me individual messages. Maybe it will also be a nice travel diary and EVERYONE can read it :-)
Yesterday it started relatively relaxed in Hamburg, my best friend Anne came to the airport in Hamburg and after numerous hugs, I got in line at the security checkpoint that felt like it was 10km long. Then off to London. Everything was on time and uneventful.
Arriving at London Heathrow, I had to wait 5 hours for my connecting flight. Why the hell do all these benches in the waiting areas have armrests?!? You can't even lie down and take a nap!! Well, super tired, I walked up and down this terminal, charged my phone, ate something, and eventually found a bench in a corner where one armrest was missing. Yayyy! Finally lie down and take a nap :-)
At 8:45 PM, I made my way to the gate. With transit, a fast train to some gates, I don't know, I arrived and was able to board the plane pretty quickly. Super modern aircraft! The rich and beautiful have some kind of bed, the less rich and beautiful have wider seats, and the commoners have 3x3 seats in one row. Whatever, as long as I arrive. I sat one row behind the emergency exit and because a couple wanted to sit next to each other, we swapped seats and I was right by the emergency exit. Deluxe legroom.
After the served dinner, I took my Lorazepam and was able to sleep somewhat. I woke up around 6:00 AM and saw the sunrise over South America. That was beautiful.
Finally landed! Then felt like 100 km line at passport control. But my suitcase was right there on the baggage carousel. Now just quickly withdraw some cash.
Oops! No working ATMs anywhere in sight. I wandered through the airport for an hour until I found one. But it didn't give me any money. Everything in Spanish. A woman behind me tried to help me. No luck. Shit!! Next try at another ATM. I tried ALL the functions and eventually, CASH! Yayyy! Trip saved :-) Now just quickly find the bus and get to the subway. With English and poor Spanish, everything worked out and I arrived at the hostel around late afternoon. Put my luggage in the storage room and went out right away to eat and explore the area.
After 2 empanadas and a coffee, I took the cable car to Cerro de Cristobal. What a wonderful view. Finally arrived in Chile, feelings of happiness arise..
