Off to Gili Air

Julkaistu: 07.05.2017

Yesterday we booked the crossing to the small island of Gili Air via the internet. Since Ubud is not anywhere near the water, we also booked the 1 ½ hour drive to the port. We also informed ourselves in advance about the choice of provider, as there are strong fluctuations in quality and reliability here. However, we were very satisfied with Gili Getaway. Uncomplicated and well organized.

So we and our backpacks made it safely on board. The exciting part or the challenge was yet to come: the crossing. No matter who you talk to, there are only two possible scenarios for the crossing to the Gili Islands. 1) You vomit and it's the longest two hours of your life. 2) You cannot understand option 1 because it was easy and relaxed.

As experienced seasickness candidates, we naturally know exactly what reasons there are for seasickness: 1) Tiredness 2) Hunger 3) Fear. So we ate and slept enough and approached the crossing easily. And for safety, we each took a tablet. Conclusion: Option 2 !!!!!

When we arrived on Gili Air, we and the other tourists are welcomed at the port by horse-drawn carriages. Here you get around on foot, by carriage or by bike, there are no cars. However, since our accommodation is only a few minutes' walk away and the horse-drawn carriages have very little to do with appropriate animal husbandry, sadly enough, we walk. The small bungalow has a cute front garden, a hammock, and an outdoor bathroom. The sun is burning and we first get an overview of the island.
