Day 20 Game Drive Day

Julkaistu: 02.05.2017

Uhhh... What a night. We had set up our tents right on the banks of the Luangwa River in Zambia. The camp was called Wildlife-Camp and it lived up to its name. In the evening, Impalas grazed nearby and baboons tried to steal our food. We received safety information, as it was normal for hippos to graze between the tents at night and sometimes lions or hyenas would pass through the camp. And indeed, when I woke up at night, I heard a hippo grazing right in front of my tent. It's a strange feeling. In the morning, as we woke up, we heard lions roaring in the distance and hyenas howling.

At 6:00 am, we set off for the Morning Game Drive in the South Luangwa National Park. It was very impressive. We saw a lot. Everything from small to large was represented.

But the lions didn't want to show themselves properly. We found a pride, but they had retreated deep into the shadows of the bushes. No chances for a photo, but it was still very exciting.

After 4 hours, we returned to the camp.

Until the evening, we could relax or do something else.

At 4:00 pm, we set off for the Night Game Drive. The excitement rose again.

And now we saw the lions. They had just killed an impala and were now resting peacefully in the middle of the road. The lioness with the lowest rank was still chewing on the head of the impala.

Not far from the lions, we encountered a small family of elephants with a calf. The calf was only a few months old.

The sundowner in the park literally got a bit wet as it started to rain. When it got dark, we went in search of a leopard. Unfortunately, in vain. But we saw hippos grazing and other nocturnal animals.

I'll have to be patient for the leopards. We didn't find them unfortunately. Maybe on the next game drive.
