Continued by bus to Melbourne (8 h). After checking in at the hostel, I explored the surroundings a bit.
Joined the free or donation-based guided city tour after the pancake breakfast. Took a rest at noon, went to the bar with two Germans in the evening. However, I still wanted to carry out my plan on Christmas Eve and went to the church service at 23:00!!! Strange times here. The first one was quickly over, so I stayed for the second one. After 2.5 hours in the church, I finally waddled home at 1:30 a.m. (there were no more trains). It was still worth it!
The next day, all buses and trains were free in the entire state. Mike, one of the Germans, asked me if I wanted to go to another city with him. Sure! So we got on the train with a larger group and explored Bendigo. When we returned to Melbourne, we were exhausted, but we still went to St. Kilda in the evening to see the penguins. Since it was Christmas, there were a lot of people. The penguins were too scared to come on land. A bit disappointing. But we stood in the cold wind.
