A place of horror.

In the morning, we went to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Prison by bicycle.
The Khmer Rouge imprisoned the local population at the slightest sign of a connection to Vietnam.
The first block. The Khmer Rouge took over many schools in Cambodia as prisons.
.
In one room, you can still find these tables and benches.
And blackboards from school.
The prisoners were tied to this metal bed. They had to relieve themselves in the box.
No way out.
During school days, this served as a playground equipment. During the time of the prison, people were tied up with their arms behind their back and hoisted up for torture.
The second building.
With many individual cells. At some point, there were so many inmates that two were put in one cell.
Not really spacious.
In the next floor, there were wooden cells.
.
And here too, everything is secured with wire mesh fences.
People were paraded around alive in this way.
Another torture method: upside down in feces and sewage.
Monument.
Many names of the deceased are listed.
With this knowledge, we rode the bicycle through the city to the outskirts.
Dark and gloomy captivity. Prisoners were brought in by truck in the evenings. The number increased rapidly, so not all could be executed on the same evening. They had to linger here until the next day. The prisoners could not see each other in it. See next picture.
.
The executioner's office. See next picture.
.
Chemical storage room. DDT and other substances were stored here. After the execution, the chemicals were distributed on the bodies to prevent odor, so that people working nearby would not suspect anything. Furthermore, to actually kill any still-living people. See next picture.
.
The leaves of this palm tree are very sharp.
Very sharp!
They were used, among other things, for the execution.
Mass grave of 450 victims.
Mass grave of 166 victims without heads.
Here the remains of the prisoners' clothing are exhibited. When it rains harder, clothing from lower layers is sometimes washed up.
Mass grave of more than 100 victims. Children and women, the majority of whom were buried naked.
And this is probably the cruelest tree in the world: the death tree. When the Vietnamese entered and ended these executions, they found this tree. Blood, hair, and brains on it. The heads of babies were slammed against this tree.
And there was a loudspeaker on this tree to drown out the screams of the executed.
And this pagoda was built as a memorial to 'store' the bones of the executed and to commemorate the deceased.
.
Even marked whether male or female.
People were killed with various tools.
This was also marked.
