The 1st day of diving

Julkaistu: 02.07.2023

We actually dared to do it. Yesterday we had our 1st dive. Normally we wanted to do a trial course. But after we came up after the first descent, it quickly became clear that it should not be a trial course but an 'Open Water Diving course'.

It was incredible underwater. Julian, our dive instructor from Germany, 20 years old, was so empathetic, calm and informative. Sensational. The right man for us.

He first told us everything on land and explained. What we have to do and not to do while diving. He also immediately took away my fear that there were white sharks 🦈 nearby. Apparently, other sharks that fortunately only eat seaweed and not meat.

During the first dive, we did a lot of exercises underwater. We were under water at depths of 2 and later 5 meters. We had to complete the following tasks: take the regulator out of the mouth and then put it back in and blow it out again; flood the mask with water in different ways, and then push the water out of the mask using a certain technique; take off and then put on the buoyancy compensator underwater; we had to provide each other with air underwater; Julian turned off the air valve underwater to show us what it is like when the air runs out; we also had to take off and put on the weight belt.

We had quite a lot to do. But then we went as deep as 9.5 meters. And we were rewarded for all our efforts. We saw parrotfish, batfish, bannerfish, trumpetfish, blue starfish, sole fish, a small blue-spotted stingray, leaf scorpion fish, mantis shrimp, and Nemos. (If you don't know the fish, you can google them 🤣)

Julian took some photos, both of us and the fish. Unfortunately, we will only receive the photos later because we still have to complete another diving day.

Today we are going wreck diving. More information will be available for you tomorrow.
