Another goodbye

Julkaistu: 16.12.2018

Our last day on the incredibly charming island has arrived. The nice hotel staff takes us to the beach once again, and this time we are in for a surprise. Two days ago, we were almost undisturbed here. Today, however, there are already two speedboats anchored and unloading their passengers. A small private paradise can change so quickly. Nevertheless, we enjoy the remaining hours on the beach and then get taken to the pier. Typical Germans, we are quite early, but it turns out to be a stroke of luck. During the car ride, a black cloud front has moved in and is already pouring down rain in the distance. We take cover under the small boathouse and wait until the front reaches us. The horizon and all the surrounding islands disappear. And then the storm breaks loose, and we move from one corner to another, hoping to stay somewhat dry. Meanwhile, the Thais continue to work with a calm demeanor, even though the car window is broken, and the passenger seat is now floating. More ferry passengers arrive at the dock soaking wet and wring out their dripping clothes. Meanwhile, the boat is being prepared for departure, and we leave the island accompanied by lightning and thunder. Fortunately, the crossing only takes 25 minutes, and the weather has calmed down a bit when we arrive in Phuket. We search in vain for a welcoming place to eat and instead find two taxis that are supposed to take us in different directions. We have to say goodbye faster than expected. The taxi to the airport drives off in front of me, so I wave goodbye to Fanny on the side of the road. My extremely nice driver still has to take his groceries from the weekly market home before picking me up 10 minutes later. But I'm glad to have found a relatively inexpensive ride. Nearly an hour later, I am in Phuket Town, checking into my hostel with a factory-like atmosphere. I take an evening walk through the lovingly decorated and lit old town and enjoy the incredibly warm-hearted Thais around me. It feels strange to be alone again, but there aren't many days left for me anyway.
