Good morning
After my last blog post, not much else happened. While the sun was setting, I enjoyed a pineapple falafel burger on the roof terrace of the hostel and lay down to rest.
I started the next day (1/14/24) very relaxed, took the subway again and went to the Roma Norte district. It was very pretty but you could tell that a bit more wealthy people lived there. And of course there were stalls there too...clothes, fruit, bags, Jesus statues and more. On the way there, I noticed that instead of cars there were bicycles driving on many parts of the road. On Sundays in Mexico City from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. the road is closed to cars for a few kilometers so that people can use the road differently. There is even cycling training on certain parts, cool concept. On the way I decided to explore the Chapultepec City Park a little. There were lots and lots of stalls here too...snacks, sweets, toys and lots of other stuff. The lakes were nice to see and probably Chapultepec Castle too but I didn't go up the hill to see it. After that nothing much happened and I prepared myself for the upcoming bus ride.
It started early on January 15th, 2024 because it was supposed to start at 10:00. Checkout, take the subway again and then I was at one of what felt like 10 coach terminals in Mexico City. Had a quick breakfast and yeah, then I sat there for over an hour because I was too early, oh well. After a little delay, everyone sat in the bus and bang, 4 televisions folded down and were supposed to show films in Spanish for the next 7 hours...The nature was unbelievable, we drove for several hours over cactus-covered mountains and through dry rocky landscapes, breathtaking🤯. The bus driver was probably less afraid than me... on steep slopes and in curves he overtook trucks with trailers.😬 In between you could see volcanoes and 5000m high mountains. We arrived in Oaxaca around 5:30 p.m. and I walked about 20 minutes to the hostel and wow, it's even hotter here.🫠 Check-in, make bed and then I'm out again. It was dark, a new city, so much hustle and bustle and phew, I found it very tiring...
The first real day (01/16/24) in Oaxaca went very well. There was free breakfast and other treats later. The city is much quieter and more colorful, there are many markets where food, clothes and souvenirs etc. are offered. The Zócalo is the "main square" and there is quite a lot of life there. Heaps of food, souvenirs or other things that you really want to get to your husband/wife. I can't say much, you have to experience the city 😁
