Welcome back to my regular posts.
Where did we leave off? Oh yes. Our illegal break-in at Phoenix Park. After this exciting experience, the evening remained relatively calm. We unpacked and settled in. The next day was our first day of work at our institution, so we were all very excited. Unfortunately, our contact person Teresa was not there (she is from Germany and did her training at the same school as us), so the day was pretty shitty. I didn't have a break, I didn't know how long we had to work, everyone said something different, and I wasn't even introduced to my group. So my mood was pretty shitty. I was terribly homesick and wanted to go back home on the next flight. In hindsight, the thought was probably a bit impulsive. Anyway.
Fortunately, the next days got better and better because on the second day Teresa was back, who is funny enough the same age as me and we get along very well. Time flies since then. Last weekend, we found a legal way into Phoenix Park and stayed there for a long time. I haven't seen so many people in one place in a long time. Everyone was basking in the sun with a lot of alcohol and the occasional joint, which could easily be smelled due to the constant smell. Our original plan was to walk further through the park for 2 hours. However, Hannah quickly shot down this plan and came up with the brilliant idea of doing a photo shoot with everyone. We had a lot of fun together and came home in the evening with many beautiful pictures. I haven't been feeling very well the past few days as I was a bit under the weather, but that also settled down pretty well over the weekend. I suspect it's the typical kindergarten sickness. Every teacher here knows what I'm talking about.
After work today, my absolute highlight was that Hannah and Celine bought a bottle of Malibu for €24 because Hannah's birthday is tomorrow. 😂 And no. The bottle can't fly, cook or is larger than the standard bottles in Germany. Alcohol prices here are generally inhumane, but this really takes the cake.
So side note to everyone: In Ireland, white wine from Lidl is the cheapest and doesn't taste so bad. However, drinking Guinness is still mandatory here.
This week I still have to work two days and then have a long weekend, which I think is really cool, as there is a May festival celebrated here where children put flower wreaths on their heads and hop around a tree with colorful ribbons. Let's see what awaits me there. 😇
