"What's going on, it's time to party. The season has started, it's a real spectacle, .... " (Die Atzen)
This is part of a song that automatically came to mind when I took my first look into downtown Albufeira. It feels like the English Mallorca and the entire city center is geared towards eating/celebrating/drinking and you can see from the crab-red English people that this offer is there for a reason and is definitely used in the evenings. I always thought I was pretty tough, but when I saw the sunburns walking past me (and for once this picture isn't over-dramatized) I was shocked and impressed at the same time.
In addition, it should be said that I arrived in Albufeira around 3 p.m. and a few drunk people crossed my path at that time of day - Mallorca.
On the way to the beach I chose a route that leads up some stairs and past the few "sights" in the city. It was very interesting to observe that I met exactly 2 families on this route. No other holidaymakers, no drunks and no English people. I suddenly had the streets to myself.
Overall, the city seems more intimidating than attractive to me, since I'm not a classic party vacationer, and it's clear from many little things that some party guests get lost in the alleys at night and with a bit of alcohol. Pee marks, lonely men's underwear and stains on the streets are some of the witnesses to this.
The beach in Albufeira is a real plus point of this city and is the first one so far where the showers actually work. Here I did a short swimming session before I made my way through the city center back to my vehicle(s).
Afterwards I had a nice evening at the campsite and got ready for the hike along the coast the next day. For the next day I planned to hike and visit the Benagil cave by swimming.
I'll tell you more about this in the next post.
