ALOHA from Hawaii!

Argitaratu: 30.03.2018

28.3. - 30.3.

Aloha!

Our journey through New Zealand is now over - a new chapter begins in America!

Hawaii consists of 8 islands, the largest of which are: Big Island (of Hawaii), O'ahu (where Honolulu is), Kauai, Maui, and Moloka'i.

We landed on O'ahu, in Honolulu, and then spent the first few days at the famous Waikiki Beach.

Unfortunately, there is no ferry from island to island. So we had to change our plans a bit... we will first go around O'ahu and visit Pearl Harbor. Then we will leave our bikes on the island and fly with just our backpacks to Kauai and Big Island (of Hawaii). There, we will have to see if we can rent bikes or maybe a moped - or simply take the bus.

But now, first we will go around the island. It should be possible in a few days. We are very excited!

PS: You definitely get the feeling of Hawaii! At the airport, everyone who has booked a tour or is being picked up by a hotel gets a flower or seashell necklace. And everywhere, everyone is wearing the typical Hawaiian shirts! There are surfboards everywhere, and Hawaiian music is played on every street corner. The beach is full of palm trees, and in the interior, you can see the rugged mountains. The sea is turquoise-blue, and the sunsets are simply amazing!

So as you can see, it's a great place to live!

Unfortunately, everything is super expensive. And there are also a lot of homeless people - unbelievable! (Although apparently there are fewer here compared to the rest of the USA) The buildings all look very old; when we arrived at the airport, we really believed that we had flown back to the 60s ;-)

Well, we wanted to spend our first night at a campground. Since we didn't have internet, we relied on the offline app 'Maps Me', which showed us a campground nearby. Well, apparently this place didn't exist. So we went back to Waikiki Beach, found Wi-Fi at Starbucks, and then wanted to treat ourselves to a great hotel for 2 days - until we realized that prices in America are stated without taxes!!! So that was too expensive for us (400$ for 2 nights!!!!) - so we ended up in a hostel for 130$ (for 2 nights), which unfortunately is still almost double as expensive as the luxury hotel we stayed at in Laos. Phew!

So,

ALOHA and SEE YOU SOON!
