Today was a super exciting day, we checked off everything that was still on our bucket list: starting with Lumphini Park. It's supposed to be very beautiful, but unfortunately there was a market in the park today, so there was little peace and relaxation to be found. I really wanted to see monitor lizards, but they probably fled from the loud and hectic atmosphere. From there, we walked towards Bangkok's tallest building, Maha Nakhon, which has only been open to visitors for a few days. We took a tuk-tuk for the rest of the way, an exciting experience in the midst of Bangkok Downtown traffic! When we arrived at the building, you can't help but feel impressed. A glass platform extends 315 meters above you, which you can step onto (if you dare :-D). First, we took the elevator 78 floors up and with slightly trembling knees, stepped onto the platform. Words can't describe the view of Bangkok from up there! To be able to go on the glass platform, you have to borrow shoe covers first and then: show your nerves!
The first step takes some courage and then the staff auntie even says you should lie down for the ideal photo!
After this thrill, we continued by taxi to Chinatown and ta-daa: the Chinese are even crazier, louder, and more peculiar than the Thais. It's a bit like being in a parallel universe, these narrow alleyways with the craziest things to eat that I've ever seen, and we couldn't recognize a single one of them! Sometimes, two people can't even walk side by side because the alleyways are so narrow, but there are still scooters zooming by with boxes stacked meters high.
We took the Chao Praya Express Boat to the hotel, also exciting. Packed tightly on a boat, going from one stop to the next in the middle of Bangkok until we reach the hotel. When getting off, you have to hurry and jump onto the pier, otherwise the boat will have already left.
Tomorrow is travel time, at 11:30 am we'll be taking AirAsia from Bangkok Don Mueang to the south towards Surat Thani Airport, and then to Khao Sok National Park, where we will contact you again, provided we have internet there :-D
Best regards!
