We land in Singapore in the morning as we flew overnight. When we leave the well-air conditioned airport, we walk into a wall of very warm and humid air. We take a shuttle bus that takes us directly to our hostel. The road from the airport to the city is a palm-lined avenue. In general, we find the city to be very green.
A little later, we meet up with Jasmin, who is staying in a hostel just a few minutes away from us. Our accommodations are in China Town, so we stroll through the streets passing many stands and shops with all kinds of souvenirs and food. We go to a small restaurant. It belongs to a nice old man who won't let us leave in a sweet way because we absolutely have to try his dish. So we give in and stay for lunch.
We pass by the Tooth Relic Buddha Temple. To be able to visit it, we have to cover our legs with aprons and the two girls with scarves on their shoulders. It is a pretty, red, gold-adorned temple decorated with hundreds of small Buddha statues.
In the evening, we take a bus and subway to the zoo. It is open at night as many jungle animals are nocturnal. We see many exotic animals that we have never seen before.
The next day, Claudi and I check into the famous Marina Bay Sands Hotel to enjoy the infinity pool located on the 57th floor. Treat yourself a little, right? :D
We arrive directly under the hotel by subway. After checking in, we receive our key cards and take the elevator to the 49th floor. We open our door and enter the luxuriously furnished and decorated room. We enjoy the view of the adjacent Gardens by the Bay and I immediately fall into bed. Shortly afterwards, we go up to the pool with our swimming gear and bathrobes on. We walk straight into the water and enjoy the view of the city after taking dozens of photos. Then we sit in the jacuzzi overlooking the Gardens by the Bay. Since we completely forgot to eat because we were so amazed, we go to the nearby mall. In the middle of the food court, there is an ice skating rink where two children are trying out ice skating. Claudi orders a rice pot with vegetables and fish, and I get Chicken Lakksa (spicy noodle soup with chicken) and cheese-filled fish balls and meatballs.
Afterwards, we pick up Jasmin from the subway and visit the Gardens by the Bay. When it gets dark, the gardens are beautifully illuminated. There are metal palm-like structures covered with tendrils in three different places. In addition, they glow in different colors and just look amazing. Coincidentally, when we are at these artificial palms, there is a musically accompanied light show. We continue to stroll through the gardens and later show Jasmin our hotel room. Unfortunately, we cannot take Jasmin to the infinity pool as it is only open to hotel guests.
So Claudi and I spend some time in the infinity pool overlooking the now illuminated city and its many high-rise buildings. When the pool closes, we each have a cocktail and go to bed.
