#Brazil 2018 Day 4

28.10.2018 Our third day in Rio

Today we are first going to the Christ the Redeemer statue. We take a taxi to the base station of the Corcovado train and then continue with the cogwheel train. A ticket costs 75 reais per person. At the moment, the Christ statue is clearly visible, which means no clouds. The best place to sit is on the right side of the train. From there you have the best view.

Very impressive!!

The statue is 38m tall and covered with individual soapstone tiles. The view from here is unbelievable. Towards Sugarloaf Mountain.

Towards Copacabana and Ipanema

After enjoying the view, we go back down with the train and take a taxi to Ipanema.

Ipanema is just as beautiful as Copacabana, but not as crowded.

The pavement of the beach promenade, which stands here next to Christ and Sugarloaf as a symbol for Rio.

The Postos here have a similar meaning as on Mallorca. They designate sections of the beach and are equipped with showers and toilets.

After visiting a hippie market, we end up again in our regular bar on Copacabanaaaaa 🎵🎵

After Caipirinha and burger or pizza

We take the subway home again. The atmosphere is very tense due to the elections. Police, military, and vigilantes are everywhere. Helicopters are circling over the city.

The election results are announced at 7pm.

Tropical 'Trump' unfortunately won. We don't witness any riots here at our accommodation. Since it's raining, there don't seem to be many people on the streets.

Tomorrow we will continue to Iguazu.

Summary of Rio: a dreamy city with many exciting corners and sights. It's just a shame that you should be home in the evening and you never really feel safe. I never took my camera with me because it's best to carry everything on your body. The Brazilians are very friendly and cheerful people, with whom you quickly make contact, even though almost nobody speaks English.

Since Jürgen can also mix Caipirinha, the bar in our accommodation with a view over Rio is completely sufficient.
