In Penang we boarded a modern, very cool train to Kuala Lumpur early in the morning. After over 4 hours, the train reached the capital of Malaysia. Packed with our backpacks, we got off and took a taxi to our apartment. We settled into our four walls on the 32nd floor and first enjoyed the beautiful view from the window. The next two days it rained continuously, the sky was gray, the temperature dropped and the sun hid. We passed the time shopping in the incredible large centers and halls, visited the fitness center, and visited the Menara tower. In the evening, we wandered through the streets of Bukit Bintang and enjoyed a delicious Mexican dinner. As is typical in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur was influenced by a variety of peoples, religions, and cultures. Malays, Chinese, Indians, and Europeans live peacefully together here. For this reason, most people speak English. The numerous temples, churches, and mosques are sometimes side by side. Only a very small fraction in the city of 1.6 million are Christians, so I was surprised that the whole city was decorated for Christmas, everywhere Christmas music was playing, and people were serving with red Christmas hats. A taxi driver told me that almost everyone celebrates Christmas here, regardless of their faith. It touched me to witness the functioning interaction among the people. One evening we had an experience that surprised us. I suggested to a taxi driver that my brother and I could walk the last kilometer to our hotel. He looked at me surprised and emphasized that this area was very dangerous and if we walked along this street, we would be robbed. I was very grateful for the taxi driver's precaution, but I wasn't quite sure if he was exaggerating. The next two days we spent in Port Dickson at a beach hotel, 90 minutes drive from Kuala Lumpur. Since it is currently low season in this area, there were only locals in our hotel who were enjoying their holidays there. Unfortunately, the weather was still not good, it rained from time to time and we only saw the sun for short moments.
