45. Maskat the Second (Oman)

Argitaratu: 21.11.2021

16.11.21-18.11.21

It was the best decision to flee from our apartment in Nizwa to Maskat!

After a very stress-free PCR test for Sri Lanka,

we are spending another 2 relaxing days by the pool.

And then the time has come, we return our rental car after driving 3200 kilometers and getting a ticket in the desert.

Here you can see our car, which had a decent dent in the bumper after we overlooked one of those stupid speed bumps. But thanks to YouTube tutorials and Ronny's tireless efforts to pour boiling water on it, we can return it without a dent in the end 😅

Since we expected a confusing car return process (signs at the airport could help), we are here early and can say goodbye without stress once again!

The 30 days are over and we say thank you Oman - it was a crazy time!

Lastly:

Oman Katha's conclusion: 'Crazy, as much as I looked forward to Oman and enjoyed the time, I can't wait to move on now! The drives through the endless desert, the beautiful wadis, and incredible beaches were simply fantastic! Even more, I was impressed by the Omanis - that would be something for Germany, shouting, waving, and asking every foreigner on the street if they need help! Really great, open-minded people who only want the best for you! But at the same time, Oman wore us down with its regulations and difficulties - it's time to enjoy good food outside, drink a beer in the sun, buy what you want at the supermarket, and not feel like you're walking naked through the streets when choosing clothes!

Ronny's conclusion: 'Oman is a fascinating country with very nice people who always want to know if everything is fine and if you need help. Respectful, polite, and courteous, I liked that very much. Unfortunately, they hardly treat themselves to anything, eat in the car, sit in the car at the beach, and everything else is somewhat restricted. That takes the fun out of it! I was also confused by the numerous compliments I received from Indian guest workers ('you are looking very good, handsome, nice legs, etc.'). Maybe I should go to India and join Bollywood?
