Day 6: Croyde - Barnstaple

Argitaratu: 19.09.2018

This morning we enjoyed the great sea view from our room. But when we started at 10:40 am, the sun had already disappeared. :-/ The wind remained and stirred up the sea, much to the delight of the surfers. Behind Croyde, we had a great view of the small bay of Croyde with a beach. We walked briefly along the sea, then up the mountain and above the road to the next bay, Saunton, with a huge beach and subsequent dunes, the Braunton Burrows. The Saunton Sands Hotel towers high above the bay. In the adjacent Braunton Burrows, there was some dangerous terrain, but not very interesting to the eye. Starting with a bull pasture, followed by a golf course, and finally an endless military area. Since the Saunton Sands, everything has been flat, as we will now walk along the estuaries of the Taw and Torridge rivers for the next few days. It's nice when there are no uphill sections. Unfortunately, it is also not very varied. The dull weather, including longer periods of rain, adds to it. In Braunton, we "had lunch" in the cashier area of a supermarket. At least warm and dry. We continued past a naval air station, always along the Taw on the former railway line of the Atlantic Coast Express. Unfortunately, it was raining again. At some point, we could actually guess Barnstaple, but the bridge still took its time. After over 25km and 7:45h, we finally arrived. Phew. After a warm shower, we found a very nice bar with delicious food.

Tomorrow, rain and storms are forecasted, so no hiking for now! 0:-)

My legs are happy...
