Tag 2.2: Clovelly - Hartland Quay

First, a few words about Clovelly: Here, time has stood still, the main street is made of round cobblestones and is not accessible by cars, but there is a transport system with sledges that are waxed and pulled down the street. The streets are very steep and there are two pubs: The New Inn halfway and The Red Lion down at the harbor. We stayed at the New Inn overnight, but had to go to the Red Lion for dinner - ouch! :-P

We rested well overnight and started the second stage refreshed. First, we went through forests where two nice lookouts were hidden. When the coast appeared, the view of Hartland Point was as fabulous as usual. In the first valley Mouth Mill, the old buildings of the lime kiln are still standing. And after the valley comes the mountain... And after the mountain comes the valley... and then the mountain again...

The route ran a bit further inland because of the steep coast, so we crossed fields, meadows, and some nice small streams. In beautiful surroundings, we could take a short break during our lunch picnic. Because it was still quite a way to Hartland Point...

Finally, we arrived and had the first cream tea, the traditional English afternoon snack, scone with clotted cream and jam. Soooo delicious!!!

At Hartland Point with its lighthouse, the coast changed from a north coast to a west coast. This changes the view. I think you can see all the way to the top of Cornwall! Now the rocks are more dramatic again, the sea rougher. It didn't take long for the Hartland Quay Hotel, where we stayed, to appear and we managed to conquer the last mountains.
