Day 13-14 - Welcome to Spain

Argitaratu: 03.08.2022

I am dusty. And really dusty, in the truest sense of the word. In the morning, it's already wiggly and you seem to want to see the sunrise at 6:30. Just ask me, I'm facing that way and I can see it for the 5th time today. Truly a sight to see - surely even more breathtaking right on the beach. I can hear it.

It smells like fresh coffee and baguette and then it's time to pack up and sweep. As mentioned before, it's very dry, dusty, and hot here. That's how my side window is beautifully painted, but I like being stroked.

Departure at 10:36 towards Spain - today I will give it my all.

I drive and drive and see such a beautiful nature - the Pyrenees stretch out on the left and right and I drive up 10% slopes and then down 8% slopes. Few breaks, lots of tolls, I drive to a place in Spain that I have chosen. Right on the Atlantic Ocean, on a hill. First, I have to make my way up the narrow road. Before that, I stop at a parking lot with a shopping center and McDonald's - what everyone always has. Fuel and AdBlue are just better. But I'm also well taken care of with that. Accompanied by many toll booths, I arrive at the site after 7 hours of driving time at 19:30. It's "completo" and I have to keep going. Not only do I have little motivation to search now, as there are not campsites everywhere. Doesn't help. With a map that was available at the info and photos of the coast, showing how great the site was, I continue.

Arrival at 8:30 pm with a mileage of 2149.2 km, I can stop on a meadow on a site. Today it was 632.1 km and 7:33 hours of driving time.

I will only stay here overnight, without setting up I can keep my eyes open as always during the short stay. Tomorrow it continues - as always, the journey is the destination, but that probably means Bilbao.

If you want to camp in Spain, you should be aware that there are few parking spaces, especially in the Basque Country. Directly by the sea is also rare, but if so, usually with a short walk. But the coastline is breathtakingly beautiful. Rocks jut out of the sea and the waves rush onto the beach. It's awesome.

The site today is small but okay. A restaurant and a road above the site. But okay - who gets lost here.

Insight of the day - or rather of the morning: 300m further there is a huge parking lot that many campers use for overnight stays. Not me, because I didn't see that you can park there, shower, use toilets, and wake up on the beach. So the overnight stay cost a little more than 25,-€ with electricity. So as a tip - you can stand there superbly 300m further.

Campingplatz Saturran

Carretera de Deba a Gernika, km 7, 20830 Mutriku, Gipuzkoa, Spain

I stayed here. My wish was for this one:

It looked amazing!

Departure at 9:15 am - along the coast towards Bilbao - it will be an exciting day, that's all I can say.
