Dubrovnik

Argitaratu: 11.04.2022

In Croatia it is still preseason and that was quite good for us. If you want to stay overnight in Dubrovnik with a motorhome, it's visibly difficult. The previously available parking space no longer exists and the only safe alternative is the only campsite, Camp Solitudo, on site. But what if you want to stay here outside the season? Well, since the camp only opens in mid-April, staying in the parking lot in front of it is tolerated. Some campers have taken advantage of this option.

After a quiet night, we walked to the bus stop this morning and took line 6 directly to the historic city walls. And there was already quite a lot going on around 10 o'clock.

In Dubrovnik, large cruise ships dock and accordingly the old town was well attended.

Also known as the "Pearl of the Adriatic", Dubrovnik delights with its world-famous UNESCO World Heritage old town, surrounded by a gigantic wall, and with a fascinating coastal landscape.

The old town, with its numerous fortresses, bastions, towers and other buildings, has a circumference of about 1940 meters, is up to six meters thick and partly up to twenty-five meters high. It is built on high cliffs facing the sea, reinforced with further fortifications on the land side, and equipped with three large fortresses integrated into the wall: Minceta, Sveti Ivan, and Bokar. Within these walls, there are buildings from all historical periods of the city. Among other things, the main promenade (Stradun), three monasteries, the Prince's Palace and many other sacral buildings are scattered throughout the entire old town.

By the way, Dubrovnik served as a filming location for Games of Thrones, King's Landing. Some of the most significant scenes were filmed in Dubrovnik. For this reason, Dubrovnik is no longer a hidden gem but is rather besieged and of course, there are souvenirs for sale on every corner.

And yet, Dubrovnik is fantastically beautiful.

"If you want to see paradise on earth, come to Dubrovnik."
- George Bernard Shaw, Irish author and originator of the name "Pearl of the Adriatic" -

In the early afternoon, we leisurely drove to the port and looked at the cruise ships before taking the bus back to the last two stops.

If you want to visit Dubrovnik and have the opportunity, you should do so outside the main season. Then you can fully enjoy it.
