Goodbye Arctic Circle

I wake up and wonder. Why is there a board, what does it say...?

Oh, I stayed in a former school in Lapland. There have been a lot of interesting accommodations so far. Here I am woken up by a careful knock; The perhaps former teacher and now owner wakes me up with two small pancakes and cloudberries! Delicious 😋. I'm in good spirits, the start of the day is great.

We now head towards the coast, to the Gulf of Finland. The route is fairly straight. Sometimes I wonder where Mika Häkkinen did his corner training. I stop halfway and meet Santa Claus. That has to be. Especially since he has his office and post office right in the Arctic Circle. So I'm celebrating my return from the Arctic region with a visit to 'Joulupukki', as it is called in Finnish.

Then nothing happens for a long time, apart from a few reindeer and road construction machines there isn't much going on. I'm staying in Kemi overnight. The place is very quiet, matching the route we have just driven.

The Calimoto app is currently my pioneer. That's going quite well. But even she looks in vain for more varied routes. What she does for this: she sends me through smaller towns, only to lead me back onto the main road 5 km later. That's pretty funny. In this way it fulfills the goal of incorporating a few curves into the route.

I'm making pretty good progress this way and can see the city, country and rivers. This evening even the sea at Kalajoki.
