Wanaka - Tag1; Lake Matheson, Haast Pass, Lake Wanaka Tree

Today we saw and experienced more.

Relatively early, we stopped at Lake Matheson and walked around the lake. The water was so dark and calm that the mountains and glaciers were reflected perfectly in it. It looked incredibly impressive.

On the rest of the drive, we crossed two valleys that were shaped by glaciers. They were really big, and it's unimaginable to me that they were once completely filled with ice. It was impressive to drive through them and see the mountains covered in rainforest.

The Haast Pass could only be crossed by a very winding road, but the view of the valley with the clear, blue river was great, and the waterfalls created by the bad weather of the last few days flowing through the rainforest made the whole trip seem very short because there was so much to see.

When we arrived in Wanaka, we packed our beach stuff and took a short walk to Lake Wanaka Tree. The spectacular thing about this tree is that it is surrounded by water and grows in the lake. Against the backdrop of the picturesque mountains, it was truly a beautiful sight.

We spent the rest of the afternoon sunbathing and reading again:)
