After days without connection to the outside world, here is a sign of life. We have made good progress, but not as planned. And that's a good thing.
What happened? After a great Scottish breakfast on Wednesday, we were supposed to go from Inversnaid to Tyndrum. However, due to the weather (it's rainy) and a lot of climbing on Loch Lommond, it wasn't possible for us. So the plan was to hike to Ardleish, pull up a red ball, a ferry comes, get on board, cross to Ardlui, take the bus to Tyndrum, find a campsite, and done. The result: hiking to Ardleish, waiting in vain for the ferry, continue hiking to Inveranan. 4km with a stop at the pub Beingglasfarm Campsite, then bus 20km to Tyndrum, great campsite. So far, we have met many great people. From Lithuania, Australia, Holland, Denmark, Switzerland, USA, just to name a few. Thursday we continued to Inveroran. No village, only a hotel there. Beautiful area (see for yourself) and wild camping as Susi wished. On this way, Bridge of Orchy is always beautiful. Train station and great resting place. We took a break here, because it's always up and down, from stage to stage. We spent the evening at the Inveroran Hotel with Leon and Liesbeth from Minden. It was really great. As beautiful as the campsite is, who is waiting for every tourist? The midges. Small, wicked creatures that love to feast on you (see picture of hand). Friday morning, we fled the beautiful place and set off for the next stage to Kingshouse. Mega impressions along the way, mountains, moorland, fresh air, great people, and looking forward to a room with a shower. When we arrived in Kingshouse, check-in, uhh no. No booking from us. What? Susi and I had booked a Kingshouse Hotel for today, but not that one, and our booked hotel was 80km away. I don't think I need to describe the feeling in that moment. Once the initial shock was over, the question was: What now? There were 2 hotel options at a throwaway price starting from 300 pounds. That was too cheap for us. So, CAMPING and yes, at that moment it started to rain. Anyway, back to the campsite and hoping for a spot for our tent. Susi saved the day and instead of the tent, we got a cabin (small lodge) for us. So the day ended on a positive note, along with a delicious burger frustration meal. Tomorrow we will continue to Kinlochleven, the penultimate stage to Fort William. Weather forecast: rainy.
Insight of the day: Even when it seems hopeless, keep going. I didn't do so well today, but Susi did. Great job!
