Start in Toronto

When we finally arrived in Toronto in the evening, we still had a few smaller hurdles to overcome and by that I don't mean the estimated 100 kg of luggage that I had to carry around with me. Now the official entry and the receipt of the visas were on the program.

Done! This means we are now allowed to stay in Canada for a year for 'work & travel'. So, we grabbed our few belongings and sought out our first accommodation. It must be said that our top priority was to get by as cheaply as possible. After an hour's bus and subway ride, we finally arrived. And it really looked like little money everywhere here *laughs*. Carina and I in the middle of the hipster district, probably the largest gathering of different nationalities in Toronto.

31.10.17: The first night was somehow done and I have to say the jet lag is worse than originally expected. I was pretty exhausted! Nevertheless, we had our breakfast, if you can call it that ;-). Funny sight of our abundant buffet. Welcome to the life of a backpacker.

We met two nice guys at breakfast who made our stay in Toronto much easier with their support. Let's get started! Today, opening a bank account and an invitation to lunch with my future boss at BlueCat Networks were on the program. A short note on this, my stay abroad totals six months. Of these, I will complete a four-month internship at the above-mentioned company.

We quickly realized that without internet access, Google Maps, etc., our transportation options would be greatly hindered. But help arrived immediately when we were looking for the right bus stop. A friendly Canadian rushed to our aid and actually accompanied us to the bank's front door. The next item on the agenda was my lunch appointment.

I was warmly welcomed in the office. It was great! After shaking hands and introductions, we went to the nearest restaurant. A slightly fancier place, as one might say in Germany. As everyone knows who knows me well... food is a big issue for me. Like the saying goes, the farmer doesn't eat what he doesn't know. I have to admit I'm really picky and like to stick with what I know. Nevertheless, the girls, my boss and my two buddies, as they are nicely called there, quickly made my choice easier for me. And of course, 'we' decided on something familiar. Yes, chicken! It always tastes good and this time it was exactly the right choice for my taste. After lunch, I was invited for a little tour of the office. I rarely see something so amazing. Unfortunately, I can't show any pictures of these beautiful impressions until January. I was too busy talking and gawking. But I won't reveal too much now. Be surprised. You will be just as thrilled with this great office as I am.

Afterwards, we made our way into the city, as we had only planned a short stop in Toronto. Here are a few impressions of this bustling city!

Toronto's landmark, the CN Tower. Something I haven't talked much about yet... the temperature. Well, I'm certainly not a benchmark for cold sensitivity, but I didn't want to leave the house without a hat. It was about 4-5 degrees Celsius outside. Classic winter, in my opinion.

I found this picture very funny! A small church among the skyscrapers. Somehow doesn't fit in. I had to capture it in any case.

Hats off to the cleanliness in Toronto. Especially in the midst of the business district, creating such a beautiful atmosphere with this lovely park.

As you can tell from the date, it's been Halloween. Personally, I'm not really pro-Halloween, at least not the way it's practiced in Germany. In any case, this sight had to be captured. The waiting dog in the supermarket with a cake costume *laughs*.

Isn't this a fantastic sight. I was especially overwhelmed by the order that prevails there. After a rich salad for dinner, we also fell into bed dead tired. After all, tomorrow is another day. :-)
