2024 - June - Rammstein in Marseille

June 8, 2024, Rammstein's first performance at the Vélodrome in Marseille. A very international audience welcomes our German band. The many French people are joined by many other Europeans.

While we were doing a little city tour in Marseille during the day at 32°C in the shade, we met countless fans who were easily recognizable by their shirts hours before the concert. There were many Germans there, but also countless Brits. We even talked to some of them.

In fact, there will be no concert in Great Britain on the Rammstein tour this year. The reason for this is apparently too many restrictions. This drives fans abroad and Marseille is a good choice for two reasons. Firstly, a stay here can be easily combined with a summer holiday on the Mediterranean and secondly, the Vélodrome stadium is worth a trip in itself.

The architecture is great and the stadium is further highlighted by the many lighting effects during the show. Of course, the size also plays a role. The Vélodrome has an impressive 67,000 seats. Of course, the seating is distributed differently at a concert than at a football match. But we were still 53,000 fans who really got the stadium rocking.

Only our block was a bit more reserved. To be honest, I was pretty frustrated by that. I was actually the only one dancing and standing. And that's exactly what I was doing to disturb everyone. So it was the only right decision for us to leave our spot. In the end, we crawled under a barrier and got into the wheelchair area. But there were only two wheelchairs there. And there were various other dancing (!) fans there. The atmosphere there and probably almost everywhere in the stadium was amazing.

Of course, this was also due to the men from Rammstein, who, as always, played brilliantly. And it was not for nothing that today's La Provence magazine headlined: "Rammstein à Marseille: une entrée explosive au Vélodrome" (Rammstein in Marseille: an explosive entry into the Vélodrome).
