Two days of rain in New Zealand? No, that doesn't happen;) We wake up to beautiful weather and hit the road. On our way to Abel Tasman National Park, we take a small detour. Instead of going through the interior, we drive along the coast to the Pancake Rocks (or as they say here: Pfannekuchenfelsen).
The detour is worth it and we admire the rock formations that gave them their name. Now that the fog from the previous day has cleared, we can better appreciate the beauty of the West Coast. The drive is a bit reminiscent of Highway 1 between San Francisco and LA. But only a bit.
We turn inland, passing through old gold mining towns, winding along beautiful rivers and green meadows. Diverse New Zealand.
We reach our destination, the camping site "The Barn" at the entrance of Abel Tasman National Park, late in the afternoon. First impressions: the best camping site so far.
We've already had campsites with beautiful views.
We've already had well-equipped campsites.
We've already had campsites with grassy ground for us and the camper.
But this is the first place that combines all of these criteria. That's why we're staying here for 3 nights. For the next day, we book a tour. Kayaking with a guide through the national park in the morning, and hiking back to our camping site in the afternoon.
We're excited!
