Super Olympia Friday

What was possible on Thursday is now also a fact for Friday: 2 alpine races in one day. We were allowed to prepare the slalom. Early in the morning, I was able to test 4 camera positions, which worked well in principle. Only one camera initially had no sound. After some time and almost cramps in my legs - I was standing on a steep slalom slope - the technicians were able to fix the problem.

The race was very exciting, especially since Wendy conjured up a very good run in the snow with start number 1. In the finish, she wasn't completely satisfied at first. But after Mikaela Shiffrin finished, she realized that she had managed a good first run. Her nervousness gradually eased in the leader box.

But one highlight of the first run was also the performance of the last starting skier. She performed impressively, even though she didn't touch any of the around 60 slalom gates.

In the 2nd run, the infamous Hitchcock finale took place. It was very nice to see all the ladies on the podium being happy. Also, all teams took a photo on the podium this time. This is not always the case, as the examples of Shiffrin and Hirscher from the previous days showed.

After the race, we helped out at the giant slalom start for the men. Then we went on the well-deserved, approximately 5km long descent into the valley, which ended right in front of our accommodation - we have definitely earned this after these exhausting days.

After a post-workout shake, which surely tasted better than Wendy's energy drink that she had in the leader box, we quickly freshened up and went to the medal ceremony at the Olympic Stadium. The Medal Plaza was very crowded. We had limited visibility and were far away from the stars. It took quite a while until Dario Cologna's turn. The ceremony was well done and the atmosphere was very good. Then it was the Korean's turn as the Olympic champion. The atmosphere was electric and the cell phones that were raised in the air were countless. After the Korean's tribute, the stadium emptied almost completely, so we were able to get the best seats. What followed was amazing, first Feuz and then Holdener. I tried to create some excitement with my homemade flags, which I think worked pretty well. At least one official was happy, except when I was still waving the flags when Wendy already had the medal on, she didn't think that was so great.
