Even though we were very impressed with the Port de Pollença, our eyes were already on the next port and the conditions for the crossing.
We called Port d'Alcúdia, but no one there would give us a guarantee of a place. Call again tomorrow morning.
The alternative was the port of Cala Rajada, one phone call, yes, space is not a problem. Contact the harbor master on channel 8. They don't take reservations over the phone, but after the person I spoke to asked for the name of the boat, I was sure they had something for our Gustav.
So far we had been successful, but our experience in Pollença told us that it was better to have another option. So we arrived early in Cala Rajada. We made a phone call, but the answer was to radio the harbour master, we were not there. So we drove to the gas station, moored there and when there was still no movement, I resorted to the last resort and reported our Gustav to the harbour master on channel 8.
It was like Open Sesame in Aladdin and the Magic Lamp. The harbor master came by bike and showed us our place. We actually had free choice, we were the only boat in the harbor.
Everything in Cala Rajada is smaller than in the last port, the beach promenade runs a good 6 m above the water as a crown on the steep coast. A small, manageable harbor basin, a small but impressive fishing colony, a few excursion boats and on the opposite side of the promenade the local harbor. The promenade was bustling with activity. Shortly after we had moored our Gustav, the bikes were already on the quay and we could go on our first but most important trip, destination Lidl.
Today it was my job to do the shopping. It wasn't that demanding, just water and beer. Heike had used the time to look around the area and there was a small fortress on the next mountain top, Castell de Capdepera.
The destination was already entered into the satnav, so I could hardly have made a different decision. The train was already moving. The climb to the Castell demanded everything from our e-bike and I really had to mobilize all my reserves to get myself and bike up the mountain. Result, arrival 5 p.m., Castell closed.
We returned to Gustav without having accomplished anything, on the cycle path away from major roads. But we had a taste of our new surroundings and were looking forward to the coming days.
