Last days in Cape Town

Argitaratu: 28.04.2018

On Thursday and Friday, we wanted to tackle Table Mountain, but it was always cloudy and partly rainy. So we kept postponing it to the next day, without success. On Thursday, I just walked around with the Tippelbrüder from the hostel, we bought some things here and there and went to the Castle of Good Hope, a small fortress from the early days of Cape Town in the 17th century. It's less spectacular than you might think at first, and the gloomy weather didn't invite us to take many pictures.

In the evening, we went to a Beer-Meetup with Couchsurfers, but soon we took a taxi to Mojo Market, which the two Tippelbrüder really wanted to see. They were so overwhelmed by the selection here that we ended up having dinner twice because we couldn't decide on one! =P

Friday was quite relaxing. It was cloudy again and a bit rainy, so again not the weather for Table Mountain... In the evening, there was a 'Bring your meat and we braai it for you' event at the hostel, so I got some steak and potato salad for myself and hung out in the hostel.

In the afternoon, it cleared up and the sun came out. Yes, Table Mountain weather!! I ordered an Uber (for those who don't know, private taxis booked through an app) to take me to the lower cable station at Table Mountain. But on the way there, you could already see that the whole of Cape Town had cleared up, but Table Mountain was still covered in clouds... So again nothing... But from the lower cable station, which was just below the clouds, I already had a great view of Cape Town! So I enjoyed it for a while with a cappuccino and pie, and then walked the 3-4 kilometers back to the hostel.

For the braai at the hostel, I sat with an Austrian couple who have been on a world tour for over 2 years and have been everywhere! Just the last 4 months crisscrossing Africa.

On my way to my room, I saw that the light was on. Okay, new occupant in the dorm, that's fine! But nobody was there. Hm, forgot to turn off the light when leaving, oh well. I went to sleep and shortly after, an African man came into my room, got ready, and lay down. And shortly after that, the dorm door opened again and we heard girls' voices in party mood, yah, you can come in and change here! No worries! Laughter and commotion in the dorm because of the party girls... But we still managed to sleep. But early in the morning, I had to go out to the toilet. And once again, the light was on, but even worse, the door to the outside was wide open! Great, we're sleeping, we have our valuables, personal stuff, etc. lying next to us on the shelf, and the party girls leave the door wide open as if to say, get in and take what you want! They were still asleep this morning, but there was a complaint about it when checking out!

Well, now I'm just sitting here waiting for time to pass until my flight tonight!
