Day 25 - Dover to Pett Level

Argitaratu: 09.09.2016

This morning we walked through the streets of Dover after having a cozy breakfast at the bed and breakfast. Dover looks more like a small town, as there is nothing in the center to indicate that dozens of ferries from France dock here daily. In a cafe in the pedestrian zone, Jessica got a Dirty Chai Latte thanks to language barriers; a regular Chai with double coffee. The shop owner, a funny older man, conspiratorially told me that the brew is a specialty here. 'Really?' I asked him, surprised, as I had never heard of this drink before. He just winked and laughed. He himself thinks that Chai Latte is a terrible drink.

Afterwards, we strolled through the city center a bit more and then drove towards Hastings, as the bed and breakfast owner said there would be a beautiful beach there. We didn't have to drive long before we found our beach. Only a few people shared the long pebble beach with us. The water was wonderful, and when the tide came in, we had fun with the huge waves that lifted us up insanely high. Every one of us made a real dive when a single wave surprised us. We probably looked like stranded whales.

For the night, we wanted to drive a little further and find a suitable place as close to the sea as possible. On the way, we passed by Lydd, a city that is nothing special, but whose tip of land consists of a large industrial area. Everything looks gloomy and deserted, and the beach next to it was crowded with old containers and shipwrecks. Even the air seemed polluted. All very fascinating, but we didn't want to sleep here. Continuing along the coastal roads, we found a parking lot in front of a cow pasture just before the village of Pett Level, directly opposite the sea. Although we couldn't see the sea because a hill separated it from the road.

Since it was late and the wind was uncomfortably strong, we stayed in the car and continued watching Sons of Anarchy. In the few moments we moved out of the car, we were immediately visited by two ducks. They reminded us a bit of ourselves; dozens of ducks in the pond and these two wandering around begging for food. Still a nice company.
