Let's get in touch again :-)
First: we're fine! But we freeze and starve every now and then, how should we put it, for organizational reasons. This should get better! ;-)
Somehow summer isn't really here in New Zealand yet, we had nights with only 4 degrees Celsius! If there hadn't been the storm and the rain, everything would have been fine. But @ Anke: we don't have a beach shelter this time!!! The tent was waterproof.
In addition, we have already reported a broken sleeping pad and a hole in one of the two pairs of pants we have with us.
We've also been drinking (like every year) since December 31st. until February 9th no alcohol - we'll hold on! Although it did sound tempting... With the weather and all.
It feels like we always take down the tent in the rain (or in a storm) and then have to stop to dry.
Now for the positive news: We get along, @Till: we don't need to be rescued yet and we have INCREDIBLE animal experiences and wonderful landscapes!
We were already lucky enough to have two Hoiho (yellow-eyed pingiun) - endangered, a Takahe (endemic, there are only about 500 left in New Zealand), Sea Lions (supposedly also endangered - we had them often) and Hector's dolphins ( You guessed it: threatened with extinction) to experience in nature. The flightless Takahe could only be seen in a 300 hectare fenced area.
Tomorrow we start our next multi-day hike: The Humpridgetrack with 62 km. We are looking forward to it and hope for good hiking weather.
