18.11.18 Christchurch

New Zealand is not just around the corner. However, we had the best flight connections and arrived in Christchurch after 24 hours. We had a short layover in Singapore. We had 1.5 hours. However, in the end, we were glad to arrive in Christchurch. And all our first impressions were extremely positive. Everyone at immigration was extremely friendly, even when my shoes had to be washed. They take it very seriously here to prevent anything from abroad from being brought to the island. The weather was much better than expected. Very windy and around 16 degrees. After checking in at the hotel, our goal was to do something to beat the jet lag. First, we explored the city center of Christchurch, where you can still see the effects of the 2010 earthquake when the whole city was in ruins.

Afterwards, we walked towards the sea, but it was a bit too far and would have taken us at least another hour. So, we ordered an Uber taxi. At the coast, we enjoyed the fresh sea air, a walk along the beach, and a cheesecake before Uber took us back to the hotel.

At that point, we surrendered to the tiredness and took a nap. This way, we were refreshed in the evening and could spend a cozy evening with an aperitif and a delicious dinner at a trendy restaurant. So, we arrived well on the other side of the world.
