If we sleep directly by the sea, we take a beach walk before breakfast. The climate is currently quite rough, windy, but dry. So we're getting hungry. After breakfast we set off. Today we explore the Catlins, a region in the very south of the island, here too agriculture dominates, cows and sheep en masse. Today you could stop every few kilometers to see a sight such as waterfalls, bays, etc., but we have limited ourselves to a few. First of all, this is a bay with a beautiful lighthouse, and then the southernmost point of the South Island, special waterfalls, a bay with the chance to see penguins, but we would have to be here in the evening for that. Each place is connected to at least a 20-minute walk, so that we also get our money's worth in this regard. The landscape and coast are once again beautiful and the weather is getting better throughout the day.
At Nugget Point, the last sight and impressive coastal promontory, we continue to Dunnedin. We want to be there by mid-afternoon to experience some city life. Dunnedin is very Scottish, we like it with its beautiful buildings, especially the railway station is picturesque, very good. However, not much is happening after 4 pm, except in the main square, the Octagon, where there is once again delicious coffee and something sweet.
Now we have to replenish the fridge before heading to the campground near the city. The place is right on the edge of the forest and for an urban campground it is very nice, despite the fact that the pitches are next to each other, we feel like we are in the middle of the forest. We are once again enjoying the infrastructure of a "real" campground with showers!!
Today there is a very delicious grilled fish and of course, as always, local Sauvignon Blanc for an aperitif and Merlot for the main course.
For the rest of the evening, as it gets cooler, we retreat to our house, there is a nice couch area in the back.
