After setting an alarm to start hitchhiking earlier, we had breakfast in bed.
Once we squeezed all our stuff, which for some reason keeps increasing 😜, into our backpack, we went out in the rain to the road to hitchhike with our sign.
After about 5 minutes, a woman picked us up and took us to Christchurch (3 hours). During the ride, the woman told us about Lake Tekapo, and we decided to change our destination for today. It would be boring to always stick to the plan.
Then, an older man picked us up and dropped us off shortly after Chch, about 30 minutes later.
In Chch, we sat on a street corner to write a new sign. This was a real backpacker moment for me.
Shortly after, Domi from France came around the corner and picked us up. After an hour, we took a coffee break in Geraldine, and that's when I offered her to keep driving, as we didn't completely trust her driving style, which we didn't tell her, of course.
When I got behind the wheel, I felt a real road trip feeling again, and we drove together to Lake Tekapo (about 2.5 hours). In total, we covered 400 km today.
When we arrived there, we were all amazed by the turquoise color of the lake.
We arrived around 5 o'clock, and then Lea and I continued on our own. After a short walk that felt endless with the backpack, we arrived at an accommodation that luckily had a free bed. When we entered the room, we saw these incredibly cool tents through the window and decided to change our bed and now we're in this great tent with beds, sockets, dreamcatcher, hot water bottle,...
I hope it won't get too cold, and I wish you a good night, good afternoon, or good morning ☺️
