If someone had told me a year ago that I would drive 100 km today to go on a 24 km hike, I would probably have said, 'Well, someone doesn't know me very well.'
But I want to tell you the whole story.
It all started with a note on my bed...
And with my response...
On the weekend, we met for the first time and got along well right away. Over a glass of wine, it was clear that despite the predicted rain, we would do a 24 km walk up Mount Robert in Nelson the next day.
At 6 o'clock, after 2 hours of sleep, the alarm went off and after breakfast, we were on our way. We said goodbye to Sophie and the three of us, Lena, Vika, and Patrick, drove 100 km to Nelson together. The rain dampened our mood and tried to steal our motivation, but we still dared to start the ascent. Finally, when we reached the top, we sought shelter from the rain in a hut and changed into different clothes. Then we continued to conquer the remaining 300/400 meters of altitude and walked along the ridge.
The plan was to hike to the next hut and make pancakes there. The path along the ridge took us up and down on a beautiful trail, until it became more difficult. It got to the point where one person felt fear because it was steep downhill next to us, and we decided to turn back, even though it was only 1 km to the hut. Safety and well-being come first, so we also threw our plan overboard.
The way back was challenging, but we motivated each other. The trail was a challenge towards the end, and we had to watch every step, sometimes not paying attention to the wonderful nature until someone looked up and expressed their enthusiasm, and we would often stand in one place for minutes, as the view from 1400 meters was simply breathtakingly beautiful. On the way back, the weather improved and so did the view.
I find it a shame that the pictures don't even come close to how beautiful nature actually is.
But before I describe the diverse view in detail, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, because they say more than 1000 words.
When we then dedicated ourselves to the descent again, we enjoyed the sunset and arrived at the car when it was dark again. We then drove back to Blenheim, paid Domino's a visit, and then returned to the hostel.
Good night dears!!
☺️☺️
P.S. I actually wanted to upload fewer pictures, but I think they're all so great. ☺️
