Marmaris

Argitaratu: 17.07.2024

Marmaris is a Mediterranean city on the Turkish Riviera with a lively pebble beach and a long promenade. The city is located in a valley between mountainous pine forests and the clear sea, which is particularly popular among sailors and divers.

It is already 36°C in Marmaris in the morning, there is no breeze and according to our captain, it will remain like this throughout the day.

We are walking and in no time, we are all drenched. We are heading to Marmaris Castle.

The history of the castle, which is the most important historical structure in the center of Marmaris, dates back to 1044 BC and the Ionian period. The part of the building currently visited, which was renovated and expanded during the reigns of Alexander the Great and Suleiman the Magnificent, dates back to the Ottoman era. There is a small museum housed here and one has a wonderful view of the marina and the entire bay.

We could not visit the Ibrahim Aga Mosque as we were too early and it is only accessible during prayer times.

So we wandered around the bazaar, had something cool to drink in one of the countless restaurants/bars, and soon returned to our ship.
