On 28.02. in the evening, I picked up my parents at the airport for a six-day visit to beautiful Madrid. Unfortunately, the whole thing was not blessed with good weather, as rain was forecasted for every (!) day.
In the end, the weather was a bit better than expected. We did have a lot of rain, but sometimes the sun came out for a few hours or at least it was dry.
We were out and about a lot during those days (thanks to an app, my parents were even able to track our exact distance). We visited all the important tourist attractions. It was a nice perspective for me as well, because as a 'tourist', you somehow get to see a lot of the city. I also had the chance to visit a few museums, such as the world-famous Museo del Prado and the Royal Palace. We also explored all the beautiful green squares that Madrid has to offer, like Plaza de Espana and of course Retiro Park. My parents also thought that Madrid offers a nice mix of green spaces and cityscape, and they were reminded of Munich to some extent. Moreover, the days were filled with delicious and good food, so we went to bed stuffed after a glass of wine in the evenings. We particularly enjoyed a visit to the tapas bar 'Rosi La Loca', which I can highly recommend. They serve some more unique dishes like a pomegranate-goat cheese salad at really good prices, and the ambiance is extraordinary. If you ever go on a vacation in Madrid, you must go there!
My parents really liked the visit and the city itself, which I can totally understand. When we were on Gran Vía, I felt like I was transported back to my first days when Madrid seemed incredibly huge to me. It is indeed a metropolis, but by now I am familiar with several parts of the city, and it is easy to explore the city center with all its sights on foot.
All in all, I was delighted to have my family visit, and we had some fantastic and also exhausting days.
